It looks as if we will face more calls for referendums on the ECHR and maybe other issues. Referendums are usually a bad thing in a representative democracy. Why?

1. They are often used by failing/divided political parties to try to resolve internal squabbles.

Fascinating story. I was born in 1965, Harold Wilson was the first politician I remember. I developed an interest in politics early (grandfather’s influence). Wilson became my hero - creation of the Open Uni, his hatred of racism… this puts to context to his last period as PM

As an old (Bristol) Cathedralian I applaud this initiative. I’m disappointed Letts doesn’t. Surely greater harmony, integration & respect for our different beliefs & culture is better than the divisive and dangerous extremism found on the fringes of all major religions.

These young people are immensely impressive. I literally got 3 answers (all music - Messiaen, Adams and Fauré) in the whole episode. There’s been some nonsense about diversity requirements on Twitter today, which this episode gives lie to. #UniversityChallenge

Just watched “American Fiction”, based on the 2001 Percival Everett novel “Erasure”. The irony of having loved it is not lost on me! Recommend.
