I spent the last month traveling around America and Canada, talking to people in contexts from conferences to old friends that I'd lost touch with, to family on all ends of the political spectrum. First time back since before covid. Here's what I learned.

COVID protection protocols are sometimes theatrical nonsense like the Starbucks where no one wears a mask but there’s still tall plexiglas barriers at the cashier and they won’t touch your travel mug to refill it

I don't get the hate that so many academic have for Outlook, I've used gmail for ages, but Outlook is better and lets me add my Google calendars much easier than the reverse. Integrates w/ zoom & slack but mostly, it's just easier to use what the university uses by default.

This is incredible! A beautiful new space and one that's along on the TVP, right in the center of the city. I can't wait to bike here from Byron, about 20 min for me. Well done London Bicycle Café !
