Good question from Jake Tapper just now: wouldn't a vaccine mandate make more sense than a mask mandate to end this pandemic right now?

Susan Glasser Jake Tapper I’m vaccinated & I want everyone to get vaccinated. But the govt requiring any type of medical treatment seems wrong. It seems like an authoritarian exercise. Banning unvaccinated from public transportation & bldgs, private biz requiring for employees & customers etc all good.

Pam Lyman Susan Glasser Jake Tapper I agree vaccines should continue to be required to attend school for overall public health, but parents still have other options to educate their children like home schooling if they choose not to vaccinate, for example. I am pro vaccine.

@lisasalmon42 Susan Glasser Jake Tapper As a parent, I don’t really have that option. We are a household where both parents work. Our child is in second grade. We are now required to be in our offices a few days a week. Our child cannot stay home alone.

Pam Lyman Susan Glasser Jake Tapper I do understand that many parents are in that situation until a vaccine is available for children under 12. I and my own children were vaccinated for school; I agree with that requirement. My point is that the govt shouldn’t take the choice about vaccines away from Americans.

@lisasalmon42 Susan Glasser Jake Tapper But what about the choice of the vaccinated Americans?I choose to have my kid go to school in a place that is safe and as free of deadly disease as possible. Why do the rights of those wanting to stay unvaccinatedatter more than those who want to be vaccinated?

Pam Lyman Susan Glasser Jake Tapper I agree. The unvaccinated ppl are making it hard for all of us. How would a govt mandate work for this vaccine or any future medical requirement. Would it be by force, or would there be a penalty like jail or money or some other penalty? That’s too much power in my opinion.

@lisasalmon42 Susan Glasser Jake Tapper Good question. I don't know, maybe it would be that you weren't allowed to enter public places without it, like train stations, busses, schools, airports etc. Without vaccinations, this is not going away, and it is likely only going to get worse with more dangerous variants.
