Bill gave victims “more autonomy” and made it “practically impossible to criminalize complainants for violating a ban on their own name”.

Thanks to Rosel Kim 김지현 for speaking to me about one of the biggest challenges of working at a public interest organization: saying no. As a senior staff lawyer LEAF (Women's Legal Education and Action Fund), Kim manages cases and law reform submissions.

Disappointed the Saskatchewan government has passed their misinformed pronoun bill by invoking the notwithstanding clause, after the courts warned of the potential harm it would cause young 2SLGBTQIA+ people. As a parent, my heart is broken for the queer kids impacted by this.

1/4 | This is a dark day in Canadian history. We will remember this as the 1st time an elected government has used the to limit the rights of children & young people - and the first time that an elected government has done so with respect to 2SLGBTQI people

Pam Hrick and I wrote about the need to end the moratoriums on restorative violence for sexual violence and provide survivors with options. The criminal legal system continues to fail survivors and those who commit harm. There are other avenues to justice. theglobeandmail.com/opinion/articl…

I’m so excited for the Avenues to Justice project to be launched today.

This report will provide the foundation of LEAF (Women's Legal Education and Action Fund)’s advocacy to increase access to restorative justice and transformative justice for sexual violence in the months and years to come.

Today, LEAF's Executive Director Pam Hrick will be speaking to the JUST Committee on publication bans.

Thus far, the Senate listened to survivors and feminist orgs and improved Bill S-12. Let's ensure the Bill stays on track.
