Today is the big day! In Ontario, the solar eclipse is expected to start at 2:04 p.m. and last about two and a half hours. The sun will be fully eclipsed at approximately 3:20 to 3:23 p.m. Apply all #EclipseTips today, enjoy the show and plan for a safe journey home.
Today’s #EclipseTip is for all those driving to and from areas hosting solar eclipse events – stay informed by checking local news or websites for traffic advisories and updates, or dial 5-1-1 for travel information provided by Ontario Ministry of Transportation
While a total solar eclipse is indeed a cause for celebration, today's #EclipseTip is clear – impaired driving is never safe. Remember, any amount of alcohol or drugs in your system can impair your ability to drive. If you suspect someone is driving under the influence, call 911.
Today's #EclipseTip -- know when to call 9-1-1. It is anticipated that emergency lines may receive increased calls for service. Only use 911 for genuine emergencies like serious collisions, medical crises, or criminal activity. For non-emergencies, call 1-888-310-1122.
Anticipate potential delays when travelling to and from your destinations, as enthusiasts travel to witness the event. #EclipseTip - be vigilant about heightened pedestrian activity, especially near viewing areas and event sites. Exercise utmost caution and patience on all roads.
Meet #OPPCanine Hopper! This bouncy and spirited Labrador Retriever is a dedicated Search and Rescue Dog. He knows how to harness his energy when responding to a call for service, using it to help locate evidence and/or missing persons. Good boy, Hopper!
The OPP-led Provincial Auto Theft and Towing Team and Canada Border Services Agency recovered 598 stolen vehicles during Project Vector. The efforts in collaboration with @SureteDuQuebec, Police Montréal and various Ontario police services, are part of the ongoing response to vehicle theft in Ontario.
The first #EclipseTip encourages you to plan ahead to enjoy the solar eclipse. If you feel the urge to witness the eclipse, do not stop or pull over on the roadway or shoulder to observe. Instead, carefully exit the roadway and park in a safe location away from traffic.
Project Vector – OPP and Canada Border Services Agency along with @SureteDuQuebec and Police Montréal announce the results of a major operation.
