Great to share ideas last night with Canadian Federation of University Women CFUW on the past & future of wildlife loss & recovery in Canada, our work WCS Canada 💚, and the role hope in conservation.

Our attitudes towards whales show the massive shift in how Canadians value wildlife.

1953 goal: increase harvest of beluga whales to render into dogfood

2024 goal: reunited an orphaned orca calf with its extended family

I think we need more cities and towns to adopt rare plants as floral emblems and advocate for their conservation.

Interesting analysis of extinction risk based on the fossil record.

As habitats shrink, the chances of a species becoming extinct rapidly increases.

To stop current extinction we need to stop shrinking habitats.

Status of Bald Eagle in ON in 1908. Even before DDT, it had declined because of shooting & loss of big trees for nesting.

It's recovery is evidence of hope that conservation works.

Halting habitat loss is our challenge today & the focus of our efforts WCS Canada 💚 KBA Canada 💚

Migratory wildlife species are a shared responsibility, and we need to co-ordinate our actions with international partners to help species on the move.
