'The Son of Prophecy: The Rise of Henry Tudor' is an epic sweep through 300 years of one family's story, and their unlikely emergence from the Welsh hills to become kings of England. This is the story of the Tudors, but not as you know it.

Out next year:

On this day in history, Jasper Tudor, the great survivor of the Wars of the Roses, died. In my latest article, I look at the man one Welsh antiquarian described simply as 'the Good Duke'.

A likely apocryphal Welsh tale recorded in 1578 states that when Jasper Tudor landed in Wales in 1485, a very old woman approached him and said โ€˜Long mayst thou live! For thou hast better kept thy nephew, than King Richard kept hisโ€™.

Whatever happened to the princes, I'd agree.

It is poignant that when he found out his uncle Jasper had died, Henry VII immediately made his way from London with his queen Elizabeth of York to attend the funeral at Keynsham Abbey. The king personally thanked the Mayor of Bristol for arranging. The least he could do.

Jasper Tudor was justly proud of the rank he attained in later life, and when introduced by the heralds going forth, was announced as 'the high and mighty prince, Jasper, brother and uncle of kings, duke of Bedford and earl of Pembroke'.

As I rapidly pen a new substack blog on Jasper Tudor, it strikes me that next year, when I begin talks for my book 'The Son of Prophecy', there are so many good subjects for public talks. The Glyn Dwr years? Owen Tudor and his queen? Jasper Tudor? Henry Tudor's rise? So. Much.

Chris Given-Wilson, aside from being one of the best medievalists we've ever had, is a fantastic writer. This is some paragraph in his Henry IV chapter in the Iain Dale โš’๏ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ.๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฑ edited 'Kings and Queens'.

'Perkin Warbeck was a fake name'

It is clear that this was an anglicised rendering of the French Pierrchon Werbecque, itself a Frenchified version Piers Osbek. Not always a conspiracy around every corner and at every door. Or is there? ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿพโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

You know in Back to the Future where pictures start to disappear when history is rewritten....um... Maybe because they may have left the Tower the word has literally started to disappear ๐Ÿ˜ฌ*

*Or, just shows how much attention I've given this book over last few weeks

If you make mouth noises or drink and gulp on your podcast, I won't continue listening no matter how compelling the content is. True story.
