“Non-profit” is often a misleading term. “Tax-exempt” is more accurate.

Entities that spend down their margins through executive comp and various luxuries so that they don’t have net profit aren’t any less motivated by money than for-profit businesses.

Oakland has done it.

It is the first U.S. school district to transition to a 100% battery-electric school bus fleet (74 buses).

The buses provide electricity back to the grid as well.

Will improve the health of everyone and the climate.

The Chinese government does not believe in unprotected and unsupervised markets. That’s how it helped create the world’s most innovative electronics manufacturing cluster. That’s the whole reason we’re here. If you can’t understand this, you can’t understand the global economy

Back in 2021 when I was on Odd Lots this was a point I made re: CHIPS.

We can bemoan the loss of free trade but the simple truth is that the world is playing a different game and we were losing.

Either join the game, get them to stop, or lose. Which of those 3 is palatable?

This is an excellent thread.

If our industrial policy is to succeed, we’ll need to tackle the problem head on with automation, upskilling, and innovation.

“Georgia wants to catch the wave economists have termed “reglobalization,” where such companies as Apple, Tesla and Walmart seek to diversify their supply chains away from China.”

Really interesting perspective by David Dayen. Some parts I could quibble with but I think my big takeaway is that this policy environment (i.e. IRA rules) is an opportunity that legacy automakers can't afford to pass up. If they use rules to delay EVs further, they will be worse off
