Imo, there are two competing interpretations:

1) Israel did not believe the attack was overly escalatory, and miscalculated re: both the impact and the oversight with the US.

2) Israel intended the attack to be escalatory and withheld information from the US deliberately.

Unabashed authoritarianism
So it's pro-democracy Americans v. Americans who:
1) want authoritarianism, and get excited by who it'll hurt
2) don't pay attention, or are gripped by can't-happen-here complacency
3) think it's crucial to say nothing could possibly be worse than Biden

'Lean on a U.S. friend for partisan advantage' - which is how Trump was impeached the first time - is beneath serious comment, but it's a reminder of how desperate and pathetic these people really are.

The US is not party to the International Criminal Court, and refused to ratify the Rome Statute treaty that created it.
Americans opposed to the ICC say other countries would abuse it to go after US personnel. Maybe, maybe not. Either way, it means US lacks leverage with the ICC.

Ron DeSantis 2024 did not turn out to be a repeat of Scott Walker 2016.

DeSantis 2024 turned out to be a combo of Walker 2016 (overhyped governor flops on national stage) and Ted Cruz 2016 (shy away from campaigning against the front-runner, then humiliatingly campaign for him).

The US flipped Iraq from a Sunni-run enemy of Iran to a Shia-run friend of Iran, which explains a lot of Iran's increased influence throughout the Middle East in the subsequent two decades.
That's definitely not a loss for Iran, and not exactly a win for America.

Odd seeing Americans concerned about “the birthrate,” because the only real problem is potentially too small a working-age population to grow the economy and care for retirees.
Obvious solution is immigration, which prompts “wait, why not that?”
Few like the far right’s answers.

Americans of all people should understand why Ukrainians are going “give me liberty or give me death!” rather than “oh great Putin, if we bow down, he’ll be nice and we’ll live in peace.”
Ukrainians have agency. They don’t think subjugation by Russia is peace.
For example, thread

Why aren't the far right Patriot Front protestors getting arrested, some ask?
I don't know if they'll like this, but at least part of the answer is because these Patriot Front marchers adhered to time, place, and manner restrictions. Those rules have to be viewpoint neutral.

NOOO, the antivax conspiracy theorist boosted by Steve Bannon, Elon Musk. and the Jim Jordan-chaired House 'weaponization of the federal government' committee is totally appealing to Democrats and will peel off many votes from Biden. They're smart for boosting RFK Jr. Very smart.

Americans sympathetic to the worldview and goals of far right groups such as Patriot Front recognize that it’s a liability at the moment.
Similar to the nonsense they started saying about Jan. 6 after it failed and they saw negative reactions, including from law enforcement.

There are multiple 'fascism debates' at once.
This one is between people who say Trump trying to overthrow democracy and enforce race/gender hierarchy is properly called fascist, and people who say the US has always been fascist so anyone especially concerned about that is wrong.

20 years in Afghanistan, nearly 2,500 US troops were killed, and over 20k injured.
Less than 2.5 years in Ukraine, Russia has endured almost 20X the casualties, with a higher ratio of deaths.
Russia has regenerated forces, but political costs rise each time.
Can't do it forever.

Great example of why you shouldn't trust short, out-of-context video clips you see on social media, and especially shouldn't automatically accept what the poster says it shows.

Doesn't mean it's definitely wrong, or if it is that the person got it wrong on purpose. But still.
