Guys, we’ve hit that time of year when you can get home when the sun’s still up, there are flowers, and you can go to the park without a coat.

Hello, spring. I’ve missed you.

Reflecting what a good day today was. Daughter loving preschool, Y11 were excellent (J&H mocks were great, 3 gave me additinal work to look at), loved chatting to colleague about NPQ assessment, Derwent Language Hub plans afoot, saw dad who’s teaching some Y12. Blue sky. Happy days.

Inspired by Claire Stoneman here’s the photo I took at 8am on my 40min morning gate duty when the hail departed and the sun briefly shone.

I secretly love remembering who goes to the library and who goes to the computer room. Always come away buzzing with hellos and smiles.

“I’ve very deliberately chosen to notice the smaller things, the joys I might have otherwise missed had I looked too broad, too big. The thousands of joys that lattice and join and thread into and around our daily school life.” Gorgeous.

Caroline Spalding And the sender receives a 'holding until...' receipt like they would if you've set your out of office. That's self efficacy right there.

Now - how do I pitch this to Microsoft ?

Caroline Spalding I often think very best solution would be delayed delivery instead of delayed send. So, if you want all emails to arrive between 8-4pm you set outlook to 'deliver' to your inbox at those times. Similarly if you work part-time you block delivery on non-work days for example. 1/

Caroline Spalding I’ve been through this (5-10 most days at the moment) and I was defo in the “same difference!” camp. But someone pointed out we had a policy about out of hours emails, modelling behaviours and yes that did indeed apply (especially) to me. And they were right 🫡

I don’t have the Sunday scaries because I am actually looking forward to:
- routine
- teaching poetry
- teenage bants that I have to pretend isn’t funny and secretly laugh about in my classroom

Caroline Spalding Yes, it's better. People often feel obliged to read emails when they get a notification. I often work late at night because that works for me and my family, but that doesn't mean I have to encroach on that of others. Monday morning is fine. 🥰

Hmmm I now have 16 emails with delayed delivery for various times on Monday and honestly guys are we sure that’s better than just hitting ‘send’ when it’s written…? 🤨
