It became commonplace to refer to Trump’s presidency as evidence of “democratic backsliding” but a further term would show Trump and the MAGA cult to be “anti-democracy, pro dictatorship”. They don’t want democracy to slide back; they want it to slip away.

RIP Derek Draper. A good friend from NOLS days, Derek was Labour to his core. The greatest tribute to his memory will be the election of Keir Starmer and The Labour Party into govt this year.

Thoughts with Kate and his family.

The choice at the next election is not between Big Govt and the Small State but about replacing the dead hand of this incompetent govt holding back the people and businesses of Britain with a decade of national renewal.

So, now we know what the No 10 illegal “wine time Friday” Covid parties were for: testing the concept of drinking wine by the pint.

These weren’t just illegal Downing Street gatherings.

The taxpayer-funded, Rishi Sunak Christmas film might work if the Prime Minister didn’t always look so juvenile, out of his depth and frankly, hopeless.

Christmas is a difficult time for people who have lost loved ones. It isn’t about creating the “perfect” Christmas but delivering a compromised Christmas where people make the best of the festive season knowing it isn’t quite how they remember happier ones

The Irish govt is right to pursue an interstate ECRH case on amnesty for extrajudicial killings. Only the Conservative Party supports the Act & is opposed by both unionists & nationalists in NI. The days of UK Tories deciding what’s best for Ireland should be well & truly over.

4 years today, I rejoined the Labour Party, certain the nightmare wasted Corbyn years were finally over.

I was a Keir Starmer sceptic but voted for him to be leader.

I thought the task was undeliverable. But Keir Starmer & his team have made Labour ready to govern Britain.

Hard not to view the Conservative One-Nation group as “useful idiots” for the hard-right Tory MPs: they will vote for the Rwanda scheme to proceed warning it mustn’t be amended and then the ERG will amend the bill. The way to make this bill unamendable is to vote it down tonight

Tetchy Sunak is the Humpty Dumpty Prime Minister. Legislating Rwanda as a “safe country” for refugees, despite the facts, record & UK Supreme Court verdict, is just declaring a word “means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less”. He’s heading for “a great fall” too
