Enjoyed the Tyne & Wear #MayDay Rally as usual & this was the first I’ve spoken at. These are important traditions & days in the calendar that remind us of the roots of the movement. Also great Palestinian food & company at the Tyneside Irish Centre afterwards.

I mean, when it comes to actual votes, as opposed to polling, Labour always seems to fall short.

65 Indie Councillors elected, most from a standing start. No funding from oligarchs, no support from MSM, no local party back-up, discredited and often lied about.

This is the beginning of a grassroots revolution!

I know those closely involved in Mayor Jamie Driscoll’s campaign will be hurting a bit right now, but they should be very proud. It was always going to be tough, but 126,652 votes for a candidate with no political machine behind them is very respectable & part of a (re)building of the left.

Intriguing - LabourList appears to have deleted a report saying Labour had suffered a 'humiliating disaster' in Newcastle, losing two seats to the Greens.

To be fair, the Starmer-supporting website has covered the Gaza backlash in Oldham (though not Bolton).

Looking through the pics of the Labour campaign, it’s really striking that it has returned to the small political party that it was in the New Labour years - essentially just a party of MPs, councillors & a handful of loyalists. It’s what Starmer wanted, but it should worry them.
