Instead, they have Italian passports as the family of Tomás' mother trace their heritage to Italy.

A footnote. Some websites suggest that Tomás O'Connor of Rosario Central has Irish citizenship. Not true.

I spoke with his father Ariel. Tomás' great-great grandfather was Irish but they have no proof or information about his journey to Argentina from Ireland.
