I thought I was wistful, but I’m realizing that work has regret in it. And I don’t regret anything. Maybe I’m just melancholy. It’s just that my sadness as a being doesn’t show up with that kind of consistency though it is consistent. And I’m not exactly just sad.

Jericho Brown In myself, I think of melancholy as a bittersweet emotional mode; an undergirding existential mourning of the transitory nature of beauty and joy & all good things we love in this world. The sweetness is made sweeter because of the sorrow for its inevitable passing.
