While in 🇧🇦, I also had the chance to hear Милорад Додик’s perspective of the current situation. I stressed the unique positive moment on the 🇪🇺 side and underscored that all local actors must contribute to seizing this opportunity and put 🇧🇦 first.
Had an insightful discussion with Dragan Čović on the need to speed up the 🇪🇺 integration of 🇧🇦. I am confident that the remaining challenges can be overcome.
Started my day in Sarajevo 🇧🇦 with an open and honest discussion with Foreign Minister Elmedin Dino Konaković. We spoke about the current momentum in 🇪🇺🇧🇦 relations, and agreed that remaining challenges need to be addressed to finally start 🇪🇺 accession negotiations.
On day 2️⃣ at #DelphiForum , I spoke about 'EU Western-Balkan Accession: From Political Reluctance to Strategic Urgency'. I highlighted that it is a two-way street. If the vision of an 🇪🇺 future is credible, all candidates will be more motivated to do their part and vice versa.
Met with 🇲🇪 FM Filip Ivanović at this year’s #DelphiForum . Commended the government of Montenegro on their efforts to accelerate necessary 🇪🇺reforms. Also stressed the importance of focusing on the next steps in the 🇪🇺 accession process and not get distracted.
Had a productive meeting with 🇲🇪 DPM Aleksa Bečić in Brussels on using the current momentum for 🇪🇺 integration. The success of Montenegro’s ambitious 🇪🇺 agenda fully depends on the country’s continued commitment to reforms, political maturity and stability of its government.
Very much enjoyed yesterday’s lively discussion with students at College of Europe in Natolin. Appreciated their interest in the current momentum in the 🇪🇺 - Western Balkans relationship ahead of their study trip to the region.
Thanks to Ilhan Kyuchyuk for inviting me to address today’s EU Meets the Balkans Forum in Sofia. In a conversation with Nafisa Latic, I spoke about the Dialogue on normalisation of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, the wider region and the momentum for 🇪🇺 enlargement.
Started the week with a working breakfast with Minister Maida Gorčević and her team in Sofia. I congratulated 🇲🇪 on the country’s efforts to make quick progress in its 🇪🇺 accession and stressed that it is up to Montenegro to use the current positive momentum.
As part of my regular interactions with the Western Balkans, I had a useful meeting with Shaip Kamberi in Brussels. We discussed important topics, including human and minority rights, which are key issues in the European integration process.
Very glad to meet with OSCE Kosovo Head of Mission Michael Davenport in Brussels yesterday. We spoke about the latest developments in Kosovo, our respective portfolios and expectations for the coming months.
Pleased to welcome my longtime colleague OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Kairat Abdrakhmanov to Brussels for an open and insightful update on our respective work. Among others, we discussed the importance of ensuring effective participation of national minorities in all aspects of life in the Balkans.
