I argue that we should be creating lots and lots of Nature Reserves in order to meet biodiversity goals. The €3.15b nature fund should be open to communities to buy land for this purpose, as well as state bodies creating them in every county. irishexaminer.com/lifestyle/outd…

Similar to the bogs here, BNM simply cannot apply for planning for a wind farm as these bogs do not hold planning permission for peat extraction. The delay is due to ongoing behind the scene works to try and find a way around this issue where peat extraction took place post

What's wrong with the planning system Wind Energy Ireland? Are you lobbying to have the goal posts moved to get the result you want for your Developers? The planning system is there for everyone to abide by. If Developers want to build onshore wind farms then they must abide by the

There isn't a single Nature Reserve in counties Cavan, Monaghan, Louth, Leitrim or Longford. Meath has one (not marked on the map and in private hands). Every community needs a Nature Reserve!

This is a recent photo of a wind farm built on a bog in Co. Mayo. The hydrology is destroyed. The damage bog is releasing carbon while the trees are invasive lodgepole pine. The biodiversity is also destroyed. Permanent impacts to water quality also. All round a bad idea.

BallydanganBog is one of the best examples of grass roots conservation in the country. Communities in the midlands have seen their bogs & streams decimated by peat mining. Ensuring future generations hear the call of the Curlew is the least we can do irishtimes.com/environment/20…

Over 5 years later and we're still laggards when it comes to action. Based on Minister Eamon Ryan's own comment below, declaring an emergency 5 years ago simply meant absolutely nothing as not a single politician has acted on a single issue raised with them associated with bogs

One to keep an eye on and how greenways can have direct implications on sensitive biodiversity areas, particularly where red listed species of conservation are observed along with other protected species. Given the documented evidence of the direct impact on nesting red listed
