Today marks the 108th anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising.
The Sigerson Memorial in #GlasnevinCemetery commemorates those who fought during the Rising. The rebel being cradled by Mother Ireland in the monument is widely believed to represent Patrick Pearse.

#OnThisDay 1916 Margaret Keogh was the first civilian casualty of the Easter Rising. A nurse in South Dublin Union (now St. James' Hospital), she was checking on patients during a lull in the fighting & was shot by two British soldiers.

The Easter Rising began #OTD 1916. We hold fragments of an original proclamation which were ‘pasted on the wall of the G.P.O. Dublin. April 24th 1916.'

#OnThisDay 24 April 1916- The 'Proclamation of the Republic' was read by Patrick Pearse in front of the General Post Office at 12.45 pm on Easter Monday. The document was a formal assertion of the Irish Republic as a sovereign, independent state, and also a declaration of rights
