Germany’s #democracy is under threat. With fateful state elections scheduled for this year, it was powerful to see some 25.000 ppl spontaneously gathering in front of Brandenburg Gate today to show their opposition against the far-right—and it felt good to see friends+colleagues.

What (academic) research on the link between good/bad user experiences with government and trust in democratic institutions and democracy as a whole can you recommend?

The techno-optimist manifesto bothers me. I'm normally inclined not to comment because there's basically no upside to it.

But I worry about the influence of this kind of writing on – in particular – young men in tech who can absorb such things uncritically.

So: a few notes 🧵

How to design button labels (with 3 simple rules):

1. Use a verb
2. Be specific
3. Be clear

Examples:

- ‘Continue’ not ‘Next’
- ‘Return to notes’ not ‘Done’
- ‘Close message’ not ‘OK’
