Let's be clear.

Insisting 🇵🇸 can only be recognized if 🇮🇱 agrees to it via negotiations = never recognizing Palestine. That's the intention here.

It is a contradiction of international law & a denial of reality: Palestine is a state. Canada just hasn't caught up with the time.

'We can't pretend at the moment that Israel is even remotely interested in a two state solution.'

This has been true of Netanyahu and others since the 1990s.

Palestine is a state by right, not reward. There's no justification left for Canada not to recognize it.

Trudeau: “The Israeli government under PM Netanyahu has unacceptably closed the door on any path towards a two-state solution & we disagree with that fundamentally.”

So stop waiting. Recognize 🇵🇸 . It’s not a reward for Hamas but a right of Palestinians. theglobeandmail.com/politics/artic…

Let us hope that one day, America joins the international community and stops being an obstacle to peace between Israelis and Palestinians. 🤞

I will never forget watching Israeli police attack Shireen Abu Akleh’s funeral 2 years ago. Instead of contrition & accountability for those who murdered this Palestinian journalist—an awful crime—Israeli forces attacked her pallbearers as they bore her coffin. It was disgusting.

Mark Kersten Biden warned Israel about repeating the Bush administration’s mistakes, but that warning was weak because the Obama/Biden administration did not push for prosecutions of Bush administration officials. Lack of accountability leads to repeated errors.

Literally shredding the UN Charter while blaming the audience for metaphorically doing it is truly next level

Just wait. They'll say 'but our allies did it in Guantanamo...'

This madness needs to end, and those responsible for it held accountable.

A clarification: the UN General Assembly vote did not make Palestine a state.

Palestine is already a state, recognized by 140+ countries and counting.

No amount of misinformation or ripping up of the UN Charter can or will change that.

Strapped down, blindfolded, held in diapers.” Israel’s abuses of Palestinian prisoners recall US abuses at Gitmo & Abu Ghraib.

The Biden admin should vet all implicated IDF units as Leahy Law requires.

Israel must allow ICRC access to these sites as Geneva conventions require.

Canada has reversed policy and abstained at the UN vote today on Palestinian statehood. UK, Germany and Italy also abstained. France and Japan voted yes. The USA now becomes the only G7 member opposing Palestinian statehood. 🧵

A strong statement in some ways, but the problem lies within its own logic.

Canada says the promise of recognizing Palestine can't be withheld indefinitely, but also that Israel won't accept a Two State Solution.

The solution? Join the 145 states that recognize Palestine. Now.
