As I finish the long voyage of writing my book “Freedom Ship” (about escaping slavery by sea) I want to pay homage to some of the books I carried in my sea chest. Thanks to David Cecelski, Kathryn Grover, Cassandra Newby Alexander, and Timothy D. Walker.

Excellent piece by Eithne Quinn in the latest Race & Class, analysing the racist inferences found in the dubious use of drill lyrics as evidence in joint enterprise cases.

Also nice to see a review of David Lester's graphic novel about the radical Quaker abolitionist Benjamin Lay

I am honored to say that next October and November I will be the Dai Ho Chun Chair in the College of Arts, Languages, & Letters at the University of Hawai’i-Manoā. I spent a glorious semester there in spring 2019 and I am delighted to return.
