#MHM50 week 18: Whitby leech finder doll. Leeches were in demand in the 1800s & leech finders would catch them by walking barefoot through marshes. Leeches were used in bloodletting at the Hospital as it was thought an 'excess' of blood led to illness & mental health conditions.

#MHM50 week 17: clay pipes. We're not sure whether these were dug up at #StanleyRoyd Hospital or here at #Fieldhead but they remind us how land at both sites was used in the past. These pipes may have been discarded by staff & patients working these fields to feed the Hospital.
