Safeguarding is more than just a policy, it’s the foundation of youth work and at the heart of safe, supportive relationships. Youth work organisations embed safeguarding in daily practice, not just paperwork #ChildrenFirstAwarenessWeek #CFAW2025 #ChildSafeguarding

Thanks to Pat Kenny Newstalk for having myself and Franek on this morning to talk about the importance of safe offline spaces and youth work for young people ahead of #Budget2026 tomorrow #youthworkchangeslives Creating safe offline spaces for young people newstalk.com/podcasts/highl…

Meanwhile, Budget 2026 has failed to abolish sub-minimum wage rates for young people, continuing a discriminatory pay structure that undervalues young workers and deepens income insecurity. Sub-minimum wage rates are fundamentally unjust.

Kathryn Walsh (@kathrynreilly) 's Twitter Profile Photo

When we are reducing VAT for the hospitality sector, we must also make sure that those employed that sector are fairly and properly remunerated, in line with the LPC. Why are Sub minimum rates of pay not being abolished?

Kathryn Walsh (@kathrynreilly) 's Twitter Profile Photo

A minimum wage rise is welcome—but let’s not forget young workers still face sub-minimum rates. If we believe in fair pay, it must be fair for everyone. #Budget2026

Young people under 25 receive a lower jobseekers allowance than older adults. This isn’t just unfair, it’s harmful. It assumes young people don’t need support, when in fact they’re often the most vulnerable. #Budget2026 should have equalised JA

Good to see that Minister Jack Chambers TD noted that "Additional funding for young people through youth services is being provided, with an increased focus on capital investment." Looking forward to seeing the detail from Minister Helen McEntee TD & Department of Education and Youth #youthworkchangeslives

While Budget 2026 includes another year of increased investment in Youth Affairs & the importance of youth work is recognised in the new Department, we know from working with youth services, this increase is not sufficient to meet the lived realities of services on the ground.

Youth Affairs funding in Department of Education and Youth is up €8m in #Budget2026—welcome recognition from Helen McEntee TD in her statement for youth work, but less than 13% increase won’t meet the real needs on the ground. Youth work deserves more #Youthworkchangeslives
