Meanwhile, Budget 2026 has failed to abolish sub-minimum wage rates for young people, continuing a discriminatory pay structure that undervalues young workers and deepens income insecurity. Sub-minimum wage rates are fundamentally unjust.

When we are reducing VAT for the hospitality sector, we must also make sure that those employed that sector are fairly and properly remunerated, in line with the LPC. Why are Sub minimum rates of pay not being abolished?

While Budget 2026 includes another year of increased investment in Youth Affairs & the importance of youth work is recognised in the new Department, we know from working with youth services, this increase is not sufficient to meet the lived realities of services on the ground.
