Many voters stayed at home, underwhelmed by what the parties offered. Councils matter. Too many tax us too much. They damage shopping centres with aggressive anti driver policies. They fail to do the basics of rubbish collection and roads well.

This candidate’s green certainly represents something. But it isn’t the environment.

I wonder if B&NES Council will organise official tours of the bollards for summer visitors to the City. It could be an extra source of income for a Council that’s desperate for cash?

Wokingham Lib Dems sent out enough leaflets to remind voters not to give them a majority on the Council. Their higher car park charges, higher taxes, closed and narrowed roads, more potholes, a worse refuse service and wasteful spending are not popular.

A regular theme highlighted on Clarkson’s Farm is that so many local authorities hammer businesses in unnecessary red tape. This petty bureaucracy restricts the enterprise freedom of so many local businesses at a time where they need support not punishment.

I benchmark this against the result of the 2021 London mayoral election in those same wards and look at the change.

In short, there is a swing to CON.

Labour's partial collapse in Oxford demands national media attention. Where indies stood against Labour, Labour vote fell, and Labour lost several seats to the indies.

Time to sack Susan Brown as leader, Luke Akehurst ?
