And now he decided to get himself trapped in the chicken coop!

Fantastic to take 30+ students from University of Oviedo plus Germán Orizaola Alfredo Ojanguren around Wild Finca this morning. Talking succession, rewilding, wildlife and farming.

We have a super feisty male Cirl Bunting currently. He has been attacking many different windows for weeks, including my car. Now he has taken to pecking the life out of the silver cap of the fat ball feeder.

It seems the story of ‘The Boy that cried Wolf’ has received a Spanish translation…

What I’d give for a natural damp patch like that on our land. All that work (and damage to the land) for a few more square metres of grazing. Bizarre.

Back home in Asturias after a night away. Never gets boring. Amazing skies. Grasshopper warbler reeling away, Buzzards tussling overhead, Red-billed Choughs heading back to their cliff after an afternoon’s foraging.

This is going to be great!

Sunday mornings are better spent with otters. Amazing views. Thanks to the noisy ducks for alerting us as we walked to the market. Bearded vulture, Egyptian vultures, Peregrine falcon and a mountain of Griffon vultures after too.

We had some mega winds over winter & a lot of Willow, & older apple trees with Ivy attached came down. This one, already dead, split in half. The Ivy acted as a sail, & now with its host dead the mistletoe left in the standing wood also died but the dead wood is still important.
