A Commission into abuse in sport was announced 4 months ago.

Abuse cases continue to be exposed in the media, and still, there is no mandate, details and a start date.

Will the Commission have the necessary teeth to compel those who were in charge to testify?

A shout-out to the research community who came together and worked hard to build the case for investment in the people who make lifesaving, life changing and future building discoveries.

I asked the government if Canadian athletes carded under the Athlete Assistance Program were considered protected under federal jurisdiction.

Answer: Sport Canada does not refer to them as being under “federal jurisdiction”.

Still, athletes wait for a Commission into abuse.

Research belongs to everyone.

It holds real promise for:

new technologies and jump-starting economic growth.

I know the challenges they face firsthand. When I was at the university, I helped them secure funding, food, housing and heating.

They have the ideas, do research now, and are also the future of research.

Profoundly saddened to learn of the passing of former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney. He was generous, kind, and a tireless champion of Canadians. My heartfelt condolences to his family.

Investment in researchers, postdocs and grad students means new discoveries-treatments, climate solutions, technologies, and a better future for all.
