Today marks #InternationalMotherEarthDay , a chance to celebrate #ourplanet but also recognise the challenges it is facing. We all have a part to play, from individuals, to large international companies, to small non profits like ourselves.

For children at our Encouraging Education centres, #books are an opportunity for them to learn to read, and use their new #reading skills to learn. In early 2023, we set up a community library at our Katanga centre. These books are available for anyone in the community.

The children at our Ewafe home have painted the chicks a beautiful shade of pink to protect them from vultures and hawks. This allows them to roam the grounds freely without having to be shut inside to keep them safe.

This year, the Millar Cameron team is embarking on another huge and exciting virtual walking challenge across Africa to raise funds for Kids Club Kampala. Our goal is to walk over 13 million steps, the equivalent of walking from Birmingham to the charity's head office in Uganda.

At our Ewafe home we have an amazing #garden which grows all kinds of fruit and vegetables, including the jackfruit in this picture. Here the children can learn how to cultivate crops and manage #land sustainably, whilst harvesting it to its full potential.

Our projects cannot teach every person living in the slums a new skill, or #educate every out-of-school child, but by creating opportunities for people in Kampala, our hope is that they will go on to share their #knowledge with others.
