Leaders: take care of yourself first.

Your mindset, your health, your perspective, your energy.

This isn't selfish. It's you equipping yourself to give your team your best.

You can't pour from an empty cup. You can't give what you don't possess.

If you want to question others, be willing to be questioned.

If you want to hold others accountable, be willing to be held accountable.

If you want to critique, be willing to be critiqued.

Be the standard.

The arena of average is overcrowded, full of people who settle for comfort and resist change. Only when you step out of this arena can you reject mediocrity and unlock your potential.

You weren't made for average. Stop believing and living like you were.

Don’t expect others to welcome your attempts at holding them accountable if you aren’t willing to be held accountable. Don’t mistake compliance for acceptance.

Leaders must live the standard.

Those who complain are often those who also blame others, who reject accountability, who shun personal responsibility. Negativity compounds.

The best take ownership, embrace accountability, and seek solutions.

You choose what kind of leader and teammate you want to be.

If you want your team to be positive, resilient, committed, mentally tough, humble, connected, are you putting them in situations where that is demanded of and trained in them?

Don’t hope for a great team, develop one.

Growth doesn’t happen on accident. Lead on purpose.

Something I've found helpful when going into a meeting with a 'difficult' person:

Write down 5 things I appreciate about them, or that I think they do well.

It changes my energy toward them. Rather than walking in on edge expecting to be annoyed, I walk in believing the best.

Don’t do good things for attention.
Don’t do good things for credit.
Don’t do good things for praise.

Do good things to do good things, to make an impact, to serve others.

Humility is the way.

This was very cool to read.

Our Coach Performance Plan BETTER helps coaches establish and plan for 4 pillars:

1. Physical Health
2. Purpose
3. EQ
4. Relationships

It's what you need. If you need it, that means it's also what's best for your athletes.

You are responsible for your mindset.
You are responsible for your effort.
You are responsible for your words.
You are responsible for your attitude.
You are responsible for your energy.
You are responsible for your impact.

Take ownership.

You can complain about people or you can talk to people.

Only one of those options can lead to making things better.
