'The Appalachian Regional Commission has awarded a $434,131 grant to Walker County to help fund a direct connection for pedestrians and cyclists between the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park and downtown Chickamauga'

Love to see it!

''Tear it up' is such the wrong thing to say in an off-road advertisement in this day and age, when off-road areas and trails are continually being closed because people are doing just that. It directly goes against Tread Lightly principles and responsible off-road behavior.'

Thoughts on this attempted edge lane road? Michael Williams

I'm not sure why the sidewalk is closed and it's unclear if parking is supposed to be allowed within the dashed line

Data

The U.S. Census Bureau is only annual source of federal data on how much biking is happening in the United States.

Since 2005 it has provided estimates of how many bike to work as their primary mode of travel, currently around 730,000 people

A lot of post-war cities in California were built w wide arterials & an abundance of slip lanes. But the good news is this space can be repurposed to high-quality protected intersections! Here is just one of the 18 intersection conversions (so far) in Fremont CA.

While I wish bike safety was part of this standard, this is a huge step forward

nhtsagov estimates the 'lifetime monetized net benefit of this rule is projected to be between $5.82 and $7.26 billion'

We need and this is a step in the right direction

'NHTSA research has confirmed that a vehicle (the 2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid) was able to avoid collision under all testing conditions up to the maximum proposed testing speed requirement for lead vehicle stopped [and] moving'

I like that this is a cheaper vehicle doing well

In 2012 Congress directed U.S. Department of Transportation to establish an exam and require motor carriers to pass it

β€œWhile the agency has done some research on this topic in the past, and we’ve collected comments a couple of times...we’ve never gotten much further than that...We are 10 years late'

I feel like the writer of this report really wanted to say

'when a bike lane is needed on a major roadway, buffered bike lanes or other types of physical barriers should be used when feasible'

I really hope that nhtsagov answers this question in the report 'expected to be completed within 2024' that was also expected 'to be completed by the end of 2023' when they announced this rulemaking last year
