Mary, Queen of Scots, was born this week and so I thought I'd celebrate by sharing the 1st page of THE PUZZLE RING, my novel in which she has a brief but vivid cameo. If you'd like to read more, you can buy it here:

Christina Rossetti was born - 5th December 1830, in London.

I've chosen one of her most joyful poems to share with you today, but if you'd like to see her darker side, read Goblin Market, an eerie phantasy of love, desire, temptation and magical seduction

I went out to lunch the other day with my dear friend Sarah at Graze at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Such a fabulous meal, with great food, great company & a great view. And Bellinis on a Tuesday! So decadent.

William Blake was 28 November 1757, in  London. He was artistic & mystical from a young age - when he was 8, for example, he saw a tree filled with angels, their luminescent wings shining like stars from its boughs.

I have loved his art & poetry all my life.

My book matches my skirt today! I’m on the ferry, on my way out to lunch in the city - reading A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik & wearing a H&M Morris & Co snakeshead skirt - a perfect sartorial match 😊

My novel 'The Blue Rose' moves from France during the 'Terror' of the French Revolution to Imperial China, a mysterious and scarcely discovered land ...

I thought you might like to see some of my visual inspirations for the book.

Are you a daydreamer too?

Have you ever been mocked for it?

In this essay, I argued is a crucial function of a creative and innovative mind ... and that we should all be making it a mindful daily practice.

I read ONCE THERE WERE WOLVES by @charlottemcconaghy yesterday - I could not put it down. One of the best books of the year for me! So clever, so compulsively readable, so beautifully written. If you haven’t read it, I urge you to - it’s absolutely bloody brilliant!

Ellen Terry’s famous ‘beetle wing’ dress was designed for her by esteemed costumier Alice Comyns Carr & first worn on stage in Dec 1888. Meant to invoke fear, the addition of 1000 beetlewing cases created the effect of scales. Restored from 2006-2011.
