NEW: Calling itself New Yorkers for Local Businesses, a corporate lobbying group has spent half a million dollars trying to kill a wage theft enforcement bill.

It's registered in California and almost exclusively backed by McDonald's franchise owners.

The legislature needs to pass the #EmPIRE Act, and not cave to McDonalds lobbyists.

The EmPIRE Act is also opposed by the Public Employees Federation, the union that represents DOL staff. The bill's proponents say it would help fund the understaffed DOL -- delivering it $100 mil in new annual revenue from a cut of the penalties collected from EmPIRE Act claims.

'New Yorkers for Local Businesses' is a corporate lobbying group trying to kill a far-reaching wage theft enforcement bill.

It is backed almost exclusively by McDonald's franchisees -- including some that have faced wage theft suits and paid settlements.
