Huge congratulations to Lucie Vézina on successfully defending her MSc thesis Integrative Biology, 'Let’s talk about the & the : a diet & climate perspective.' You did a great job repping the cavity nesting species! Thanks Andrew D Young for examining Dirk Steinke Andrew MacDougall

I talk about how ornithology is an important part of modern biology, but I didn't have any data to back this up

so I categorized the taxonomic focus of 2448 articles from 2022/2023 from 10 general eco/evo journals

among verts, birds come in first

not bragging if its true

Research into survival of Apis mellifera in wild/feral colonies might show a different story. Worth pointing out that in the UK (for instance) they do well because beekeepers work hard to maintain their colonies in spite of the threats from sprays and declining flora.

Although Apis mellifera mellifera is doing very well globally, other mellifera subspecies and Apis species are not so fortunate. It's good to finally have some data on these other honey .

The Biodiversity Net Gain metric could be improved by taking connectivity into account, and not penalizing habitat features like scrub, thistles and nettles that can be really important for insects. Great talk and amazing dataset presented by Natalie Duffus.

Does anyone on here carry out, or know someone else who carries out, watercourse/riverine BNG assessment? I know everyone is frantically busy, but we could use some help with a project in the Broads.....

Out to Farmoor against a gale to enjoy the sight of a flock of Arctic Terns that had dropped in mid morning. Cruising around effortlessly despite the 40 kph+ winds. I suppose if you just spent the last 6 months in the southern oceans it is no big deal!

Proud of my PhD supervisor Prof. Jeff Ollerton - @[email protected] for publishing his second book with Pelagic Publishing, Birds & Flowers! 👏 I'm on a bird kick rn after going down a 2am wiki rabbit hole that led to Kiritimati island and the superbly-named Bokikokiko, so this is an Easter must-read 🐦
