Wow! What a month! And the one I cannot wait for is Fallout by Lesley Parr !
This epic historical generational tale of the Jewish Diaspora from C.15th Toledo to C.21st Miami from @RuthBehar & Penguin Random House 🐧🏠📚 is a beautiful testament to the strength of tradition, the bonds of family and religion, and the binding thread of poetry & music. A captivating read!
A thought-provoking, intense read from Ayaan Mohamud is away 🍉 and Usborne Publishing that is an eye-opening must-read novel about Islamophobia, institutional racism, bullying - and hope. 'Enjoyed' is the wrong word, but I'm glad I read this book that has made me think and reflect. Thank you.
I loved this book Matt Goodfellow. I got it into our curriculum. I read it in the classroom this year. My colleagues loved it. My pupils lived it. I bought it for my 84 year old mum who loved it and bought it for her friends. So deserved... a brilliant piece of writing.
A compelling, shocking, brave verse novel about sexual assault from @cgmoore_author Little Island Books that is sensitively and honestly written. Hopefully this may open up important discussions with older pupils on a subject so often surrounded by deep-rooted taboos. Thank you.
I love this MG novel from Sarah Hagger-Holt Usborne Publishing that brilliantly captures that important time when teenagers, emerging from childhood, question sexuality, family values & identity, and start to look at themselves, their parents, who they are & what they want through new eyes.
I'm late to read this from Miriam Halahmy Firefly Press but I'm glad I have: an important YA novel exploring themes of addiction, OCD, debt & homelessness. I loved the characters of Tasha & Josie and their unlikely friendship in the toughest of times. Older pupils would love it!
A departure for me into adult fiction& a lingering, harrowing, compelling read, shot through with that deepest brand of loyal, eternal love shared by that friend who truly knows you but loves you all the same, & enough to let you go. Utterly brilliant Karl Geary Penguin Random House 🐧🏠📚
What a stunning read from Tim Walker Andersen Press where the horrors of both WW1 trench warfare & the devastating Bhopal chemical disaster 40 years ago are intertwined by the evil gas that permeates both stories. Brilliant historical detail, cultural context & characterisation.
A fast paced MG novel from antonia maxwell ⚡️⚡️⚡️ Mani, desperately waits for her father whilst Terra Electrica infects & kills humankind in a world devasted by climate change. But in Mani there's hope: she's a healer & link with the spiritual realm beyond. Neem Tree Press TheWriteReads

#Fallout by Lesley Parr Bloomsbury Kids & YA UK is filled again with great characters, nuanced relationships & a brilliant sense of time & place which, for me, sets Parr's work apart. Set in Cold War Britain, Marcus has to navigate life in a community set against his no-good family.
Publishing in September, #TheFallingBoy David Almond OBE HarperCollins Children's Books is a beautiful exploration of new friendship - that person who helps you see the world another way - hope & resilience when facing challenging times, written in Almond's instantly recognisable ethereal style.
