@JMagosh James Austin If Corbyn had a large personal vote, wouldn't he be outperforming Labour results in similar London seats? Where is the evidence that is the case? At the last election, he actually did worse.

JWExTheSpa @JMagosh James Austin The party leader often does worse because they spend less time in their own seat. (Cf. Jo Swinson, the only Lib Dem MP in Scotland not to increase her vote, fatally so, in 2019)

JWExTheSpa @JMagosh James Austin But think also ultimately one problem with 'personal vote' chat is it conflates a lot of really important thing: i.e. Douglas Carswell demonstrably did not have a personal vote but he basically took over his entire association and infrastructure when he defected.

Stephen Bush JWExTheSpa @JMagosh True - but those councillors/activists etc would, essentially, be removing themselves from Labour (and probably from office) longer term. I'm not entirely convinced the local party is that Corbyn aligned as people say either
