Now that HR1 has passed, starting in 2025, tax-paying DACA recipients, asylum seekers, and refugees are excluded from SNAP benefits under the new federal rules. This drastic change threatens the food security of thousands of families, leaving many at risk of hunger and hardship.

We’re still thinking about last week’s celebrations for our amazing employees! Employee Appreciation Week was filled with daily treats, JCFS swag, trivia, crafts, massage chairs, and an reward ceremony to top it all off. Thank you to our hard-working and dedicated staff!

HIAS Immigration and Citizenship hosted a fun back-to-school party last week at our West Rogers Park location! Kids played with chalk, jump ropes, bubbles and were given school supplies to start the year off well. Thanks to our volunteers and everyone who came for a good time!

Students at the Knapp School & Yeshiva started school on Wednesday, August 13. Staff gathered on the playground for a group photo, and Principal Dr. Diona Lewis declared the first day as awesome! "We rocked it," she said. Here's to more great school days at Knapp!

Last week, Bikes and Music donated 90+ bikes and accessories to HIAS Immigration and Citizenship. These bikes will support refugee families in their ability to travel to and from their jobs without relying heavily on public transit. We are so grateful for this generous donation!

Response for Teens’ second-ever Sex Ed Trivia Night was a huge success! Last Sunday, participants put their sexual health knowledge to the test while raising funds to support Response for Teens.
