Fun wrinkle for this coming week:

Trillville will be the halftime performance during the Atlanta Dream’s home opener against the Dallas Wings on Tuesday.

🏀 SUNDAY FINAL SCORE AND TOP PERFORMER 🏀

24 PTS for #24 Jewell Loyd was real fitting as she delievered big plays to uplift the Seattle Storm to their first win of the szn

Sky are well represented in this NBA Finals ad.

Dwyane Wade, Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso all featured. Reese + Cardoso were cast bc of their championship pedigree as well as them both being two of the most exciting rookies in the WNBA.

Aliyah Boston deserves grace. Just had one of the best rookie seasons in league history and this whole team is undergoing change

Hasn’t been an ideal start for her, but some of these takes are insane.

GAME REVIEW:

* Phoenix Mercury shoot 28-32 FT, both league highs this season (@AtlantaDream was 21-27 FT)

*Both teams shoot 27-66 FG, but ATL was 10-23 3Pt and PHX was 6-23 3Pt, resulting in ATL having a higher eFG%

Yeah, Wright mentioned how they never took advantage of that and did take some accountability for not exploring it more.

“Maybe that’s shame on me” was some of the language she used.

Atlanta will now look to come out with more energy on Tuesday.

They have the Dallas Wings — who swept them in the playoffs last year — for their home opener.

The team has mentioned “a bitter taste” leftover from that. We’ll see how they respond.

I asked Coach Wright was there anything that Phoenix did to get them off their game early:

“Uh, yeah. They’re 4 guards.”

Says Phoenix forced their post players to play the perimeter. Also, mentioned not taking advantage of the Natasha Cloud on Tina Charles mismatch.

Wright speaking more on setting the standard for how the team should play:

“We can’t come out and get punched in the mouth like we did in the first half.”

Opening Statement from Tanisha Wright:

“Thought we did a good job of fighting back…this league is tough and can’t expend all of that energy to get back in the game….good lesson for us.”

Something about playing the Mercury — in Phoenix — gives the Dream fits.

Diana Taurasi went off for 42 to hit 10K points last year. Kahleah Copper went off for 38 tonight.

In Atlanta, it’s a different story. Just strange things.

And that is the game.

Kahleah Copper to the basket. Rhyne Howard misses the 3 to tie.

Mercury win 88-85.

Kahleah Copper 38 points. Dream had no answer for her.

Allisha Gray had 22 PTS. Rhyne Howard 21 PTS. CPT with 18 PTS.

Oh no. Cheyenne Parker-Tyus is down after that made bucket.

She took a shoulder/elbow? to the face from Diana Taurasi.

Up now. Seems to be okay.

Well. Kahleah Copper. Bucket.

Lead extends to 3. Even with one of the Dream’s better defenders — Nia Coffey — on the floor.

Copper has 36. The last time the Dream played Phoenix - DT dropped 42.
