When gas lighting first appeared in India, it was of great excitement for common people. Every evening a man would come and manually light each lamp.

Street gas light being lit, Calcutta, 1930's.💡

Reminds me the story 'Panchlight', by Phanishwar Nath Renu. 📖

This photograph of Nutan from the 1960s. 📸❤️

What is she wearing?
A Gharara or Sharara ??? 🤔

Whatever it is, she always looked elegant in anything she wore.

Manikarnika Ghat - 18th - 19th Century.

As Monidipa Bose - Dey (মণিদীপা) beautifully explains:-
'Like a journey along the river, where Death is only a ghat where one takes a brief break. Journey starts again with a new life, more ghats, and continues in its search for Moksha.'

While Chola sculptures are well known, the best sculptures of Pala era can give a run for money to any Chola era ones.
A direct forbearer of Gupta art, the idiom of the Pala art has a sublime elegance.

Such a beautiful 18th Century miniature portrait of a woman from Iran. San Diego Museum of Art .

Irony is that, it's from the same place & culture where today a woman can't go outside without her head uncovered.

Sri Rama 🏹
Kerala, Chera Period, 11th Cent,
Bronze.

A rare sculpture of Rama from Kerala.
Kerala bronzes are among the most under-appreciated & least studied schools of Indian art bcos of so much attention to ornamentation is given.
More research is required.
