how many things are we upon the brink of discovering if cowardice or carelessness did not restrain our inquiries?

The exterior decoration of the Tocotes/Beauchamp Chapel St. Nicholas Church in Bromham is mind blowing 🤯

I implore you to zoom in and check out the cheeky gargoyle on the left 🙈

In many stately homes one may see the walls adorned with taxidermised heads of big game prizes such as antelopes, gazelles or even a kudu

Lacock Abbey does things differently 😁

Yet *another* morning of horrendous weather, caught up in a torrential downpour, counting down the days until we return to Italy

Here’s a sight for sore eyes, the stunningly beautiful Basilica of San Pietro, Tuscania

Casal Rotondo is my perfect residence - a farmhouse sitting in an orchard on top of the largest mausoleum on the ancient Appian Way, it’s historic, secluded, a little creepy but most importantly secure in event of a zombie-apocalypse 😆

A *huge* thank you to everyone for your suggestions on where we should visit on our trip to Lincoln - we’re only going for 2 days so unlikely to be able to see everything but it’s all on our list

shows there’s still a great community in this sometimes awful app 🖤

We have a couple of days in Lincoln soon, driving the route via Oxford, Northampton & Leicester

Obviously we’re going to the cathedral, allegedly the connoisseur’s choice for the best in the country, but what else do we put on our “must visit” list either in Lincoln or en route?

As someone who spends a lot of time taking photos of windows I was delighted to be able to visit Lacock Abbey, and pay homage to the original 🤓

Painting of Lacock Abbey by John Piper, 1942

Piper, who was better known to me as a stained glass artist, painted this image on his way back to Fawley Bottom from surveying bomb damage in Bath

A lovely pair at Lacock Abbey. Such a shame about the son…

I bet the nuns expelled in the 1530s would agree 😬

A splendid day for exploration yesterday, we got to a few excellent places in deep Wiltshire including a diversion to Holy Cross, Seend, which we spotted perched loftily atop a hill nestled between some impressive country houses - it didn’t disappoint
