Apparently a 0.5% GDP uplift in defence spending is “fully funded” even though there is precisely zero increase in overall spending plans (which already didn’t remotely add up). This is deeply, and depressingly, unserious stuff.

Yes this is the basic contradiction in the policy. Rwanda must sound terrible to be a deterrent. But it cannot be considered terrible or else they'll look like bastards. It therefore exists in both states simultaneously.

Telling moment on a BBC Radio 4 news report yesterday when a Rwandan, who is opposed to the UK's asylum seekers being sent to his country, didn't want to be named as he was criticising his government's policy. But, hey, UK MPs have voted that it's a safe country.
