Maybe the argument should be phrased as “the scandal of the dispensationalist mind” or “the scandal of the charismatic mind.” The PCA, for example, was relatively well represented regionally in the upper echelons of govt and the academy in the 80s and 90s despite being tiny.

I was in a funeral at a mainline congregation on Sat. We vested in the church library. It was filled w Charles Swindoll, Max Lucado etc and “evangelical” thinkers.” So a lot of these complaints are frustrations from academic types in the abstract and not “evangelical” specific.

Just musing out loud:

I think something got lost when Evangelical and Baptist became synonymous.

Seems like in seeking to shed off the label of being “sectarian,” some Baptists overreacted and blended the two labels (groups) together.
