For-profit nursing homes must put residents first by prioritizing staff-to-resident ratios! That was the message hundreds of ONA members delivered to employers as they picketed outside for-profit nursing homes across the province today.

The crisis in home & community health will worsen, access will be restricted further & rationing of care will accelerate & strain an overwhelmed hospital system. This government must take responsibility for its aging population & commit to real growth as the baby boom ages out.

The budget: not enough to improve hospital staffing & capacity; not enough to respond to population growth & aging; not enough to stop ER closures, reduce surgical waitlists, or seriously address hallway healthcare. Just enough funding to maintain a perpetual crisis of care.

Solidarity with Quebec nurses, demonstrating today for a working life without mandatory overtime. Forcing government to staff up in healthcare, rather than working existing staff into the ground is a key battle for all of us.

Protest cuts at Lakeridge Health. The province isn't fully funding arbitrated wage settlements post Bill 124. Its war against health care staff and against the patients continues. Please join us at the March 20 rally.

Hospitals report that the Ministry won't fully fund them for wage increases flowing from post-Bill 124 arbitration awards. The government thus continues its war on salary increases for health care workers. Cuts to services are inevitable. Let's organize stiff resistance.

The exodus of nurses won't end without assurances that they can deliver the care their patients require. BC's nurse to patient ratios is a giant step in this direction and a model the other provinces should follow.

What's the harm in private, for-profit companies delivering publicly-funded health care?

Look no further than Shoppers Drug Mart, which subjected employees to 'intense pressure' to bill the province for unnecessary care.

With Bill 124 gone, health care workers can turn our full focus to turning around the deterioration in the quality and availability of care in Ontario.
