Last week, the first major international conference in this field was organized in Porto. The ambition is to turn it into a biannual conference series.

The Rijksmuseum has purchased these salt cellars, made by Johannes Lutma. Two of them were previously displayed in the Rijksmuseum from the 1960s onwards; the other pair was held in the Amsterdam Museum. Prior to WOII they were property of the Jewish Hamburg resident Emma Budge.

Results of our Experimentball (geddit?) Archaeology so far:

- Rounder, deeper furrowed, ones work well in sand.
- Less finely decorated nobbled ones work OK in sand too.
- Finely decorated ones work OK in clay, but seem much better for making pigment prints.
