1) An astounding survival from the Roman world. This silver bust of the emperor Galba is an incredibly rare example of an imperial imago, a reverential portrait of the reigning emperor mounted on a pole and carried into battle as a military standard...

Nature's Eye! Bizarre frost formation on a rock, Derbyshire Peak District, England.

This intriguing formation, which resembles a fish's or perhaps dragon's head, was discovered by Leigh Pugh on Stanton Moor Edge, near Birchover, when he was out to capture a photo of sunrise.

Can anyone throw any light on the iconography of this fine Byzantine (?) relief in the Museum in Ancient Corinth? Often labelled 'Lion Eating Grapes' (though I did wonder if they were dates). Any info. welcome. The Byzantine Legacy Angela O'Brien

Horses of Saint Mark were brought to Venice after the sack of Constantinople in 1204. They were probably over the starting gate of the Hippodrome of Constantinople, but were perhaps taken from Chios earlier. Napoleon took them to Paris in 1797 and they were returned in 1815.
