TRAFFIC DIVERSION ROUTES: All traffic should avoid I-95 in Norwalk due to the ongoing closure in both directions and follow the established detours seen below.

Fantastic job by first responders on the scene, and the CTDOT team who mobilized and are still on scene. Long weekend ahead for CTDOT, police, and contractors, but could not ask for better coordination. Thank you to Shailen Bhatt / Federal Highway Admn for their support today, too.

Earlier today, I declared a state of emergency in response to the damage that was caused to I-95 in Norwalk. This declaration will help expedite some of the resources needed for us to respond to this situation.

I will continue to provide more updates as they become available.

Due to significant damage caused by the fire from this morning's accident, the overpass near Exit 15 on I-95 in Norwalk needs to be demolished and the road needs to be repaved.

Expect this area of the highway to remain closed through at least Monday. Avoid driving in the area.

Regarding potential air quality impacts resulting from today's fire on I-95, DEEP Staff conducted air monitoring at the scene and no impacts to air quality were detected.

Our highways team is working closely with Connecticut's DOT on the tanker fire that has closed I-95 in Norwalk. Please heed local authorities on detours and avoid the area if possible. Thank you to the first responders who are dealing with the fire and keeping other drivers safe.

We will hold another news briefing today at 5:00PM to discuss all of the latest updates regarding the situation on I-95 in Norwalk.

Everyone should continue avoiding the area. Both the northbound and southbound lanes near Exit 15 will remain closed for an extended period.

As crews continue their work on I95 and the Fairfield Ave. overpass, we ask for everyone’s patience in driving through Norwalk and the affected areas.  We are still experiencing heavy delays and we ask motorists to seek alternate routes.

I will be holding a news conference today at 9:30 a.m. to provide an update on the situation on I-95 in Norwalk. We anticipate this area of the highway to be closed for a significant period. Anyone traveling through this area should find alternate routes.

Due to a serious tractor trailer collision, I-95 N & S near Exit 15 in Norwalk will be closed for an extended period. Officials are working to determine when it will be safe for the road to re-open. We will share news as soon as it is available. Plan to use alternate routes.
