Tomorrow is #DysarthriaAwarenessDay ! People with #dysarthria are sometimes difficult to understand. People often do not mind if you ask them to repeat what they have said to help to understand them better. Giving Voice RCSLTLearn Faculty of Health | University of Sheffield
🚨 RCSLT 💙 is now very excited about tomorrow's first ever #Dysarthria Awareness Day being launched by our fantastic #SLT2B at Human Communication Sciences | Sheffield.
😠 Dʀ Kᴀᴛᴇ Aʟʟᴀᴛᴛ nee Elderton highlights it is essential we increase #Dysarthria Awareness so everyone with #Dysarthria is treated with respect.
Exciting times for #DysarthriaAwareness ! We now have a logo and we’re ready for the countdown….watch this space for updates later today 👀

2 days until #Dysarthria AwarenessDay . #Dysarthria does not define a person. It affects how they communicate, and sadly how they are perceived by others, despite having no bearing on their intelligence or personality. Giving Voice Living with Dysarthria Dʀ Kᴀᴛᴇ Aʟʟᴀᴛᴛ nee Elderton
Human Communication Sciences | Sheffield I also suspect that the men in this case had each probably drank more on that day than I have in the last decade...
Human Communication Sciences | Sheffield Thanks. I probably wouldn't have minded quite as much if - as a wheelchair user - it wasn't already obvious that was disabled but having a slurred voice obviously means I'm an alcoholic too. It's far from the only time that assumption has been made.
Powerful words from John Quinn on the impact of #dysarthria and the disastrously low levels of public #dysathriaawareness . And this is why we need a #DysarthriaAwarenessDay
May is #StrokeAwarenessMonth ! Use resources from RCSLT 💙 and charity partners to learn more about stroke care and support recovery journeys.
