The identity of Édouard Manet’s subject in ‘Jeanne (Spring)’ wasn't revealed at first. However, Manet's friend Antonin Proust wrote in 1897, Jeanne '…subsequently took on the stage name Mlle. Demarsy and who modeled for the exquisite canvas Spring.” gty.art/49vDTs3
