First-time Yankee home runs won't be the same without the anticipation of Sterling's home run call or running to X and demanding 'What was the Sterling call?!?!?!'

Ken Holtzman was one of three pitchers and the last pitcher in major league history to pitch a no-hitter without recording a strikeout.

It happened on August 19, 1969 against the Atlanta Braves.

Holtzman was also the winningest Jewish pitcher in baseball history with 174 wins.

One John Sterling memory I haven’t seen discussed yet was his call of the wild 14-12 game against the Twins in 2019 when Aaron Hicks hit a go-ahead HR and then made a game saving catch to end the game.

The charm he brought to the booth was on full display that night.

The first game at the new Yankee Stadium took place on this day in 2009.

Johnny Damon had the first hit.

Jorge Posada hit the first HR.

Grady Sizemore hit the first grand slam.

Cleveland won the first game 10-2.

4/16/2009: Grady Sizemore had a part in spoiling the debut of the new Yankee Stadium by hitting this grand slam. While this wasn’t a good start, things got better for the Yankees from there.

Congrats to John Sterling on an amazing career. I’ve had the pleasure of listening to and working with John for decades. He is a major part of Yankee history and will be greatly missed.

John Sterling called 29.5 percent of all games in franchise history – this includes 49.9 percent of New York’s postseason games and 100 percent of Derek Jeter’s plate appearances.

Radio is a medium that creates a personal connection between host and listener.

I feel like it’s the case w/John Sterling.

He’s been in our lives for decades whether as a kid sitting in the back of the car or an adult streaming the game on an app.

Like a member of the family.

One of my favorite things about watching the movie 42 was the way they made Ebbets Field come to life.

For a kid who grew up in Brooklyn I can only imagine what it was like to have a Major League Baseball team in the borough.
