Wiwaxia is one of my favourite weird prehistoric animals! It is found during the 'Cambrian Explosion'. Around 540 million years ago, we find a massive variety of life suddenly in the fossil record. #FossilFriday

A gorgeous example of one of the most aesthetically pleasing of trace fossils, _Zoophycos_, the feeding trace of a deep-sea animal (probably a type of worm). #ichnology

We've often considered Mammut from the Ringold Formation (Washington) to be the earliest record of M. americanum. Here is that specimen...in bright shiny plastic, cropped to fit our new 3D printer. Thanks to the Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture for letting me scan it last spring.

I don't often get to actively celebrate #worldwhaleday but last week I was at GeorgiaSouthern giving a Darwin Day talk & had a chance to see the stunning Georgiacetus fossils! Snapped these photos on Darwin's 215th birthday—Darwin would've loved a whale with legs & toes! 🐳

#MosasaurMonday A couple weeks ago I was at
GeorgiaSouthern giving a Darwin Day talk and had a chance to check out their awesome museum GA Southern Museum—which has this equally awesome specimen of Tylosaurus on exhibit. The skull is really nice and worth another trip!

It’s #FossilFriday !
For your viewing pleasure I present a single sectioned tooth of a Pliocene elephant relative. Modern #elephants have amazing teeth too, replacing giant molars constantly! —Check out the two elephant skulls with Ashley Reynolds, Doctor Cat Lady for scale
