Five predictions about OpenAI 2024-2025--from the person who told you first (even before it was released) that GPT-4 would continue to be unreliable and to hallucinate, that it would not have the imagined gigantic economic impact, and that pure LLMs would reach a point of…

*Everything* that I say that infuriates the fan boys eventually gets acknowledged by OpenAI. Example; I said that GPT-4 would not have a huge economic impact; lots of people yelled at me.

Now Sam himself says it.

Same pattern over and over and over.

The evidence across multiple papers is pretty strong: don’t use an LLM for hiring.

They exhibit many of the same biases as humans, but we don’t understand their magnitude or well how to mitigate them.

Excellent quote from Gary Marcus : 'The field of AI will eventually do better, but probably with an AI that is structured differently, in which facts are first-class citizens, rather than something you hope you might get for free with enough data.'

OpenAI was amazing in 2022-2023 because they shipped a product that spoke for itself. Jaws dropped by those using it, and seeing it for themselves.

To see the company hype up future (unreleased) products feels like a major shift. If it's that good, why not ship it, like before?

Maybe LLMs *have* reached the level of bird cognition? lol (not really, but this video is hilarious)

Two companies collectively worth $3.1 trillion dollars chip in together to pledge … $2 million to teach people about the potential harms of their software.

I could not disagree with you more strongly here, Eric Schmidt.

Scaling has at least temporarily slowed.

The empirical data are clear: despite massive investments of time, labor and money, there has been no major advance in 14 months. The growth we see from GPT-2 to GPT-4 has…
