If I weren’t currently travelling, I’d do an entire clip on the exchange. Perhaps I’ll do an Spaces. It was appalling. A mixture of irrational hysteria, dogmatic smugness, and arrogant ignorance.

I listened to the first 15-20 minutes of Bill Maher’s chat with Megyn Kelly. I was truly astonished by his positions and general demeanor.

Another glaring reality at academic conferences is the extent to which attendees engage in insecure posing and signalling. It’s seldom about a genuine exchange of ideas and more so about posturing. I noticed this when I was a doctoral student. Imagine how intolerant of this I am

It goes well beyond political correctness. Academics are profoundly hyper-specialized. As such, few are synthetic big idea thinkers. They are stay-in-your lane bean counters rather than searchers of consilience. The big thinkers are always broad in their intellectual vision.

I’m currently attending an academic conference. As I’ve been saying for 30+ years, so much research fails on the Davis (1971) ‘That’s Interesting!’ benchmarks. The rigor might be present but the fundamental research questions are often banal and epistemologically myopic.
