UN Special Rapporteur Mary Lawlor UN Special Rapporteur HRDs is exactly right: human rights defenders are essential to realizing the promise of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

But these frontline activists face a growing number of challenges.

Civilians in Gaza desperately need core services and supplies.

We need rapid, unimpeded humanitarian access.

We need food, water, medicine and fuel now.

We need it at scale and we need it to be sustained.

We have been horrified by the attacks in Israel. Now the terrible and seemingly limitless bombing and destruction of Gaza and its population is deepening suffering. Evacuation orders coupled with the complete siege need to stop urgently to end this catastrophic cycle of violence
